Benefits of prewriting strategies for students - 2022 Guide

Prewriting strategies are used to clarify and generate ideas. It's like creating an outline, putting everything on paper about the topic. Prewriting is similar to brainstorming where you put everything that’s going on in your mind into a paper and then try to make sense out of it.

When I was in high school, I would struggle a lot while writing essays. My siblings would help me to write my essay, they would make a rough outline for me. I would research that outline on the internet and gather all the relevant data.

Prewriting is similar to cooking a meal. You prepare all ingredients before starting cooking. Similarly, before the actual writing, may it be an essay or a novel or a story, you need to first clear your mind and put everything on the paper.

Following are the basic techniques that are used among essay writer professionals for prewriting. Let us get started with them now.

Listing

We have already discussed that you need to clear your mind and put everything on paper. This process is known as listing. Listing is a process in which you put everything on paper in a short period. While listing, you need to keep in your mind that you write things in a broader perspective. Because in the following steps we will narrow down everything step by step.

Listing is not an easy process, it’s the beginning of your pre-writing and you need to concentrate on this part very well otherwise the output will not be of your likings.

It's better to work in a group so that your topic could be given several perspectives. Being an essay writer, you must cover all the aspects of your topic. Working in a group will cover all the aspects of your topic.

Clustering

Clustering is a technique in which you will group your listing with some reference. Place the similar items on one side, make several groups that are related to each other. You have put all your thoughts on the paper while doing the listing, now you are the best person to find out which items have a relationship with any other item

Place the topic at the center of the paper and encircle it. Pick out relevant terms from your listing and connect them with your central idea. The result should look like a web on your page. Now locate clusters that are of interest.

Clustering is very important in determining the relationship between your ideas. It will let you know which ideas are relevant and which are not. Clustering will also allow you to understand the requirements of your central idea.

Freewriting

We must take out everything that’s going on in your mind. I remember my freewriting sessions with an essay writing servicethey would allow us 5 minutes and we were to write as much as possible related to our topic, may it be wrong or right, relevant or irrelevant, we just had to WRITE non-stop.

After doing non-stop writing, the next step is to read it. While reading, highlight all the important information that is relevant to your topic. This will let you narrow your topic and the result will get you several relevant points to your central idea.

Looping

Looping is a freewriting method that enables you to continuously focus your ideas while attempting to generate a writing topic. Following your initial freewriting session, pick a central notion or concept in your writing and restart your freewriting session with that topic as your beginning point. You will repeat one 5- to 10-minute freewriting after another, creating a succession of freewriting, each more precise than the previous one. The same criteria apply to looping as they do to freewriting: write fast, without editing, and without pausing.

Continue looping your freewriting as many times as required, each time circling another intriguing topic, concept, phrase, or sentence. After four or five rounds of looping, you will have detailed information indicating how you feel about a certain subject. When you are completed, you may also have the basis for a preliminary thesis or an enhanced approach to your work.

The questions of Journalists

In my opinion journalists are the professional dissertation writers of prewriting. To take out information from another person they use a 6-question technique that covers almost every aspect of the topic.

These questions determine every aspect of the topic and you can decide from the answers what information is highly relevant to your central idea.

How? The first question is how significant your topic or issue is. How will your audience be affected?

Why? Why do you have this issue? Why did the problem or the issue originate?

When? When is the topic most apparent, is it in the past, present, or future? When did the problem develop?

Where? Where is the source of the problem?

What? What’s the topic? What are the basics of the topic? What is the significance of the topic?

Who? Who is going to be affected by the topic? Who are the primary and the secondary actors?

WRAP UP

You need to ask all these questions during your prewriting so that you can cover all aspects of your topic. Only then will you be able to produce a good piece of writing. I hope these techniques will help you in your prewriting activities. Thanks
